Thing #13 NeLearns2.0

I like Twitter.
I set up my account and searched some local things, but the most interesting conversations were about books, of course. I am not the only one disappointed in the new Ranger's Apprentice book covers. I even found some recommended reading for the Ranger's Apprentice fan.
I can use Twitter to stay connected to everyone without the interruption of a phone call. Or the length of a blog.
It has been really hard to stay in touch with our library board director. I wonder if she would be interested in a Twitter account?
LibraryThing
oops. I have fallen behind on the schedule.
Thing #12 is the simplest thing yet! I had no problems setting up an account or adding my favorite titles. This could be very nifty for me personally, and for my library. At the library we try to guess what titles will interest our patrons. I think having an inside look at what others are reading and their opinions of the books will be invaluable!

Technology at MPL

My boss has been teaching me about networking. You know, like: the internet server holds all the accounts and info for each public access computer and the individual computers "ask" for the information they need at the time. That's how it is supposed to work. Well...our network is set up peer-to-peer. Meaning the public access computers store all their own data and run really sloowww. My experiment tonight will be to shut down our "server" and see if the other comps. are TOTALLY self-reliant. :) here I go!!!

ALA - READ
My Newspaper(the style of poster that I chose) folds right across my eyes!
I figured out what I was doing wrong when I upload pictures...
look at me learn:)
I tried to upload a photo. It said 'Now Uploaded to Blogger', but no sign of my photo did I find.
What could I have done wrong? Does it not upload to my personal blog?
learning about flickr
I like sharing some of my pictures with the world. My sister loans me her digital camera; she is going to be sick of me asking to use it.
Find me at www.flickr.com/photos/naomi-mpl
The Madison Public Library owns a digital camera. We took lots of pictures of our summer reading program 2008. I don't think I will make those pictures public. Too many of the pictures are of our local kids.
In Flickr...
One picture that really caught my eye is by SarahBrewington labeled Underwater. You know from the title that this picture was taken under water, but you can't actually see the water around her.

I wouldn't call any of the search tools 'easy' :)
I seemed to have the most luck with Google Blog Search. Syndic8.com didn't help me at all. The only real difference I found was how cluttered the pages of syndic8 were (too much all at once). anyone else agree?
o!! I get it now:) a bundle of news all in one easy place! Good way for me to keep up on current events. i haven't had a chance to really use it yet, i'll let you know how it goes. naomi

bloglines

still figuring out how to use RSS bloglines. Then I will learn how to best utilize my new knowledge for my library. wish me luck and more later. Naomi

I enjoyed the 7 and 1/2 Habits of Highly Successful Lifelong Learners.
I think the biggest challenge for me will be number 1: Begin with the end in mind.
Thinking through a project has always seemed boring compared to jumping in with both feet. I am excited about learning to see the big picture.
7 1/2 will be the best, easiest and, of course, funnest habit of all!
